Slavs and Tatars presents Egana Djabbarova… brings together translations into English and German of two poetry cycles by the award-winning Russian-Azerbaijani author Egana Djabbarova and is published on the occasion of the exhibition “Handdschob” at Kunstmuseen Krefeld. Both cycles, “Romberg Stances” and “User Manual for the Vercise Implantable Pulse Generator,” are examples of docu-poetry. In a powerful and capacious manner, they explore the idea of disability and its entanglements with exile and migration. The publication also includes a critical essay by Slavs and Tatars and Manca Arnuš on Djabbarova’s work, a foreword by Katia Baudin, director of Kunstmuseen Krefeld, and works by the exhibiting artists, who investigate the body as a technology and a craft in its own right.

Beide Zyklen, „Romberg Stances“ und „User Manual for the Vercise Implantable Pulse Generator“, sind Beispiele dokumentarischer Lyrik. Eindringlich und vielschichtig loten sie das Thema Behinderung und dessen Verflechtungen mit Exil und Migration aus. Die Publikation enthält außerdem einen kritischen Essay von Slavs and Tatars und Manca Arnuš zum Werk Djabbarovas, ein Vorwort von Katia Baudin, Direktorin der Kunstmuseen Krefeld, sowie Arbeiten der ausstellenden Künstler*innen, die den Körper als eigenständige Technologie und als Handwerk untersuchen.

Egana Djabbarova, born in 1992 into an Azerbaijani family in Yekaterinburg, Russia, is a poet, essayist, and scholar. She is the author of several poetry collections and three novels, including My Dreadful Body (2026). Her work has appeared internationally in literary journals and anthologies, and she has taken part in literary events and academic programs in Europe, Asia, and the United States. She has been longlisted for the 2026 National Book Award for Translated Literature, is a recipient of the Hamburg Literature Prize 2025, and is an Artist Protection Fund Fellow at the University of Hamburg (2026–2027). Since 2024, she has lived in exile in Germany.

Egana Djabbarova, 1992 in Jekaterinburg (Russland) in eine aserbaidschanische Familie geboren, ist Lyrikerin, Essayistin und Wissenschaftlerin. Sie ist Autorin mehrerer Gedichtbände und dreier Romane, darunter My Dreadful Body (2026). Ihre Texte sind international in Literaturzeitschriften und Anthologien erschienen. Sie hat an Literaturveranstaltungen und akademischen Programmen in Europa, Asien und den USA teilgenommen. Sie steht auf der Longlist des National Book Award 2026 in der Kategorie Translated Literature, wurde mit dem Hamburger Literaturpreis 2025 ausgezeichnet und ist Artist Protection Fund Fellow an der Universität Hamburg (2026–2027). Seit 2024 lebt sie im Exil in Deutschland.

Slavs and Tatars is an internationally renowned art collective devoted to an area east of the former Berlin Wall and west of the Great Wall of China known as Eurasia. The collective’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at institutions around the world, including the Vienna Secession; MoMA, New York; Salt, Istanbul; and the Albertinum, Dresden. Its practice is based on three activities: exhibitions, publications, and lecture-performances. Slavs and Tatars have published extensively on multilingualism and alphabet politics, including Azbuka Strikes Back (2024), Wripped Scripped (2018), and Khhhhhhh (2012).

Slavs and Tatars ist ein international renommiertes Künstlerkollektiv. Es widmet sich einem Gebiet östlich der ehemaligen Berliner Mauer und westlich der Chinesischen Mauer, das als Eurasien bekannt ist. Die Arbeiten des Kollektivs waren Gegenstand von Einzelausstellungen an Institutionen weltweit, darunter die Wiener Secession, das MoMA in New York, Salt in Istanbul und das Albertinum in Dresden. Die Praxis von Slavs and Tatars beruht auf drei Tätigkeitsfeldern: Ausstellungen, Publikationen und Lecture-Performances.
