Die Edition »Shepherds and Kings« stellt zwei Motive gegenüber: die »Anbetung der Könige« und die »Anbetung der Hirten«. Immer wieder befasst sich Andrea Büttner in ihren Arbeiten mit der Darstellung von Armut in der Kunst. »Indem ich die Figur des Hirten untersuchte, wollte ich eine implizite Ikonografie der Armut darstellen und ihre Konnotationen im Laufe der Geschichte untersuchen – sowohl positiv als auch negativ«, so die Künstlerin.
Für die Umsetzung entschied sich Andrea Büttner für den Offsetdruck auf dünnem Bilderdruckpapier, wobei die Motive einfarbig und das Umfeld in sattem, tiefem Schwarz gedruckt wurden, zusammengesetzt aus den Skalenfarben Cyan, Magenta, Yellow und Black.
The edition Shepherds and Kings juxtaposes two motifs: the Adoration of the Kings and the Adoration of the Shepherds. In her work, Andrea Büttner repeatedly engages with the depiction of poverty in art. “By examining the figure of the shepherd, I wanted to outline an implicit iconography of poverty and investigate its connotations throughout history—both positive and negative,” says the artist.
For the production, Andrea Büttner chose offset printing on thin coated art paper, with the motifs printed in a single color and the surrounding areas in a rich, deep black composed of the process colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.
