With an openness that does not spare himself, Ferdinand Kriwet writes in his artist’s book SURIUM about longing, illness and the passing of time. Readers are rarely granted such an insight into the making of art and literature.
In SURIUM, Kriwet lists, counts and strings together what would otherwise disappear. In many layers, fragmentations and recombinations, the disparate is reordered and raised to a level not seen before.
Reading Kriwet’s book is like reading a life lived and suffered. Having reached the last page, one also looks at oneself differently. SURIUM adds an expressive variation to the great tradition of confessional literature: life distilled into a work. – Look, this is what it looks like!
